Richmond Bicycle Crash Victim Receives Full Policy Limit Settlement

Our offices recently settled a case on behalf of a bicyclist who was badly injured when he collided with another cyclist at a dimly lit intersection in Richmond near the VCU Campus.  Our client, though riding carefully, was struck by a negligent cyclist who was riding at night without lights, and flew through a stop sign going downhill.  The impact of the two bikes was so violent that our client suffered a "Type II La Forte Fracture," meaning that he fractured virtually every bone in his face, except for his jaw.  Ultimately, he required two extensive rounds of surgery, as well as extensive dental repair work to his badly broken teeth.  Not surprisingly, despite clear evidence of the other cyclist's negligence and the fact that he even pled guilty to the two moving violations he was issued by the Richmond Police Department, the insurance company dragged its feet for over a year, forcing us to file a lawsuit and drive the case towards trial in the Richmond Circuit Court.  Finally, after more than a year of delay, the insurance carrier relinquished, and settled the case for the full limit of the cyclist's insurance policy.  This case was a classic example of why aggressive lawyering is sometimes essential if badly injured people are to recover the appropriate compensation that they deserve.
