Maryland Motorcyclist Killed Speed A Factor

Deven Rachar Blackshear, 31, was killed this past Saturday when his 2009 Ducati motorcycle crashed into the side of a van merging onto Route 301 in Waldorf, MD.  The driver of the van and a toddler in the back seat were also injured, and flown from the scene to Children's National Medical Center in DC.  Apparently the force of the collision was so great that the bike flew into a car heading into the opposite direction.  While police reported that speed was a "factor" in the accident, it's difficult to know what caused it, and who was really at fault.  As many cyclists find out the hard way, "failure to yield" by a car or truck pulling out in front of them is a frequent cause of serious motorcycle accidents.  Our prayers and sympathies go out to Mr. Blackshear's family and all involved in this tragedy.  Be safe out there.
